How to care for your pearls & jewellery

Pearl care.

Pearls are an organic gemstone and require special care to ensure their longevity.

A Living Gem

Lustre that lasts for years to come.

Simple cleaning and thoughtful storage will ensure your pearls keep their lustrous beauty for years to come.

Wearing

Gentle by nature.

01

Avoid chemicals

Keep pearls away from perfume, hairspray, cosmetics and household cleaning agents. They contain alcohol, acids and harsh chemicals that harm the pearl's lustre and surface.

02

Wipe after wearing

Perspiration and dirt may also harm pearls. AUTORE recommends gently wiping your pearls with a slightly damp — not wet — cloth after you wear them.

03

Keep from water

Avoid dipping your pearls in water, or wearing them whilst bathing or swimming, as water weakens the silk thread.

Stringing

Pure silk, knotted by hand.

Pearls are strung on pure silk with a knot between each pearl.

Knotting ensures that, should a strand ever break, you only risk losing a single pearl. Silk weakens and stretches over time.

We recommend having your pearls restrung professionally once a year.

Storing & Cleaning

Kept with care.

01

Not in a safe

Do not store pearls in a safe for long periods. The dry atmosphere dries out pearls and can cause them to crack.

02

Out of the sun

Prolonged exposure to direct heat or sunshine may discolour and even dry pearls.

03

Mild soap only

A very mild soap will remove make-up or dirt. Avoid brushes or abrasive materials, which may scratch the pearl's surface.

04

No ultrasonics

Ultrasonic cleaning is not safe for pearls, and we advise against this method.

Professional Care

In expert hands.

Cleaning by a professional jeweller guarantees your pearls are never at risk of damage from chemicals or harsh soaps.
