How We Farm

Sustainability, by nature.

The South Sea pearl is the only gemstone grown in a living organism — and the pristine ocean that nurtures it is our most valuable asset.

Our Approach

Nothing is wasted.

For over two decades, AUTORE has maintained a focus on quality and excellence across every aspect of the business.

As a vertically integrated company, AUTORE takes pride in its commitment to preserve and regenerate the environment, support local communities, and invest in training and education. The ecological sustainability of our pearl farms, in the pristine waters of Western Australia and Indonesia, is paramount.

The South Sea pearl is a sustainable product because there is no waste: the entire oyster is used, with the pearl, the mother of pearl shell and the pearl meat all harvested and sold.

Environmental Responsibility

Sustainable pearl farming.

We are conscious of our planet, with an ongoing commitment to uphold our social and environmental responsibilities across every aspect of the business.

The Pinctada maxima is the only living organism to produce a gem, and it requires clean, abundant waters to thrive. AUTORE dedicates an extensive amount of time and resources to understanding the surroundings of its pearl farms, minimising ecological impact and ensuring a balanced, diverse and undisturbed environment.

The environment is one of AUTORE's most valuable assets — required to produce beautiful and lustrous pearls.

Our Commitment

Conscious farming.

01

Certified sustainable

The AUTORE Group is MSC Certified Sustainable and a member of The Pearl Producers Association (PPA). Within Australia, a quota allocated to each farming entity ensures the sustainable fishing of wild Pinctada maxima, guaranteeing an abundance of shell remains in the wild.

02

Hatchery focused

A strong focus on hatchery-grown Pinctada maxima shell minimises the need to fully use our quota for wild fishing — and the added shell in the ocean naturally spawns, further increasing numbers in the wild.

03

Marine protection

The oceans around our remote farms restrict commercial fishing, protecting marine life and preventing overfishing. Our farming infrastructure provides substrates for marine life to grow and thrive, attracting fish, seaweed and other marine flora and fauna.

Reef Regeneration

Rebuilding the reef.

Before The AUTORE farms arrived, some of these waters had been damaged by illegal fish bombing (dynamite fishing).

Since moving to these areas, we have continuously invested our resources in rebuilding the reefs that were destroyed — propagating corals and other organisms, which in turn increases fish and sea life.

Pearls for the Ocean

Luxury in service of the sea.

Pearls for the Ocean is a purposeful partnership between Ocean Recovery Alliance and AUTORE Pearls, uniting luxury craftsmanship with ocean conservation.

Grounded in a deep respect for the ocean that sustains South Sea pearl farming, AUTORE proudly supports Ocean Recovery Alliance in advancing cleaner seas for future generations, coastal communities and marine wildlife. Funds raised directly support the expansion of the Harvest Plastic Program in Lombok and beyond, where plastic waste is collected from village households and responsibly recycled — preventing pollution, dumping and burning.

Education

For future generations.

In 2014, AUTORE began a collaboration with JARI at the pearl farm in Lombok, Indonesia, to raise community awareness of the importance of environmental preservation.

The program continues today, increasing local primary school students' knowledge of pearl farming and marine conservation — and communicating the importance of sustaining the marine environment, while providing jobs, education and health care support to local communities.

Regional Employment

Opportunity where it is needed

The AUTORE Group provides employment in regional areas where work isn't readily available, including additional opportunities for Indigenous communities.

Company Practices

Respect, health & safety

Employee respect and treatment is one of the company's proudest attributes. AUTORE maintains high standards of health and safety across all its operations, and a social, ethical and environmental responsibility across every practice.

Our Farms

Ten sites, two countries.

The AUTORE Group owns and operates ten South Sea pearl farming sites.
