We don’t buy our pearls, we grow our pearls.
The AUTORE Group is the producer. Founded by Rosario Autore in 1991, we own and operate the full cycle of the South Sea pearl — from the pristine waters of our farms in Australia and Indonesia to the final piece of fine jewellery.
No pearl passes through another's hands. Every decision — where the oyster is seeded, when the pearl is harvested, how it is graded, which design will honour it — is ours. That is why the AUTORE name has become synonymous with lustre.

The Waters
Our farms are situated on some of the most beautiful coastlines of Australia and Indonesia, in waters we choose, protect and steward ourselves.

A Labour of Love
The Pinctada maxima oyster is tended by hand for years. Our divers clean, turn and care for every panel, layering time and patience into each pearl — a seven-year commitment before a single strand is strung.

The Harvest
Each pearl is drawn from the oyster by our own technicians. Nothing is wasted — the shell and the pearl meat are carried through to our bi-product operations, honouring the whole of the animal.

The Grading
Every pearl is hand-selected against the AUTORE Five S's™ — Shine, Surface, Shade, Shape and Size. The standard our founder created in 2007, recognised by Gübelin Gem Laboratories, and now used across the trade.

The Design
Led by Creative Director Jane Autore, our designers begin with the pearl, not the sketch. Each is matched to precious gemstones and a setting conceived to amplify its natural lustre.

Renowned for Lustre
True beauty comes from within.
Lustre is light reflected from a pearl's surface, combined with the deep inner glow of its nacre. It cannot be polished on. It can only be grown — through clean water, healthy oysters and years of care.
The virtue rated above all others. The quality and thickness of nacre give a pearl both its radiance and its deep inner glow.
The cleanliness of the skin. The fewer blemishes interrupting the light, the rarer and more valuable the pearl.
From silver and white to the warmest golds. Shade is the body colour and overtone the oyster gives each pearl — no two are alike.
Round, near-round, drop, button, baroque. Perfect symmetry is the rarest of all; every shape has its own character.
South Sea pearls are the largest cultured pearls in the world — a reflection of the size of the Pinctada maxima and the time it is given to grow.

Heritage
Three decades of the South Sea pearl.
1991
Rosario Autore founds the company as a broker for Australia's finest South Sea pearl farmers.
1992
Establishes the first grading and valuation process for producers; begins exporting to Europe and the United States.
1993
Opens the first half-pearl (mabe) factory in Australia.
1996
Supply partnership in Indonesia — later to become our own farm, PT Autore Pearl Culture. First trade auction held in Sydney.
2003
The AUTORE brand launches, recognised internationally for innovation in pearl jewellery design.
2007
The AUTORE Five S's™ classification guide is introduced to the trade.
2008
Rosario Autore is awarded a medal of distinction by the French Senate.
2024
The Enchantress Necklace wins in Las Vegas and Munich — AUTORE's eleventh international design award.
